In 2021, hand tools exports in Eastern Europe rose remarkably to X tons, growing by 15% compared with the previous year. Total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +86.5% against 2012 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 16% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, hand tools exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a buoyant expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Poland represented the major exporter of hand tools in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was near 44% of total exports in 2021. The Czech Republic (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 17% share, followed by Belarus (13%), Russia (9.2%) and Slovakia (4.6%). The following exporters - Romania (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Estonia (X tons) - each reached a 6.5% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to hand tools exports from Poland stood at +9.2%. At the same time, Belarus (+22.4%), Romania (+6.4%), Hungary (+4.4%), Slovakia (+4.2%), the Czech Republic (+2.9%), Russia (+2.7%) and Estonia (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +22.4% from 2012-2021. While the share of Belarus (+9.1 p.p.) and Poland (+6.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Russia (-4.3 p.p.) and the Czech Republic (-7.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Russia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 78% of total exports.

Poland, with a CAGR of +17.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 14% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.5%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+7.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Hand tools imports soared to X tons in 2021, increasing by 18% on the year before. Total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +79.6% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2021, Russia (X tons), distantly followed by Poland (X tons), Romania (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Ukraine (X tons), Belarus (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) were the largest importers of hand tools, together mixing up 89% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Belarus (with a CAGR of +14.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
