Exports in Eastern Europe
In 2022, shipments abroad of headgear of rubber or plastic decreased by -10.2% to X units for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year rising trend. Overall, exports saw a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 54%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, plastic headgear exports dropped markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a tangible increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 85%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then dropped notably in the following year.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Poland (X units), distantly followed by Belarus (X units), Russia (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Romania (X units) and Latvia (X units) represented the key exporters of headgear of rubber or plastic, together creating 88% of total exports. Hungary (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Belarus (with a CAGR of +84.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest plastic headgear supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 42% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Latvia ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 13% share.
In Poland, plastic headgear exports contracted by an average annual rate of -2.8% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Latvia (+40.6% per year) and the Czech Republic (+9.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -20.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 65% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Latvia ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+14.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2022, the amount of headgear of rubber or plastic imported in Eastern Europe totaled X units, approximately mirroring the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 21%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, plastic headgear imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +123.1% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Russia (X units) and Poland (X units) represented the main importers of headgear of rubber or plastic in Eastern Europe, together reaching approx. 63% of total imports. Romania (X units) took a 7.5% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the Czech Republic (7.3%), Belarus (5.2%) and Hungary (4.7%). Latvia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Latvia (with a CAGR of +14.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and Romania ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 66% of total imports. These countries were followed by the Czech Republic, Latvia, Hungary and Belarus, which together accounted for a further 22%.
Latvia, with a CAGR of +25.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 9.4% against the previous year. Import price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, plastic headgear import price increased by +42.2% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 20%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
