In 2021, Poland (X tons) was the key exporter of canned meat, creating 59% of total exports. Hungary (X tons) took an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the Czech Republic (6.3%), Russia (5.8%) and Romania (4.5%). The following exporters - Belarus (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons) - together made up 6.7% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to canned meat exports from Poland stood at +11.8%. At the same time, Russia (+15.0%), Hungary (+8.9%), Romania (+6.6%), Lithuania (+6.0%) and the Czech Republic (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +15.0% from 2012-2021. Belarus experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Poland (+12 p.p.) and Russia (+2.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of the Czech Republic (-4.7 p.p.) and Belarus (-4.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest canned meat supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 60% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hungary ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 6.5% share.

In Poland, canned meat exports expanded at an average annual rate of +13.0% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (+8.3% per year) and the Czech Republic (+5.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 8.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 9.7%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, imports of canned meat in Eastern Europe expanded rapidly to X tons, rising by 8.8% against the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 13%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, canned meat imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +90.7% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 20%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Romania (X tons), Poland (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Slovakia (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Russia (X tons) was the major importer of canned meat in Eastern Europe, comprising 78% of total import. It was distantly followed by Lithuania (X tons), generating a 5.5% share of total imports. Bulgaria (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.
