In general, exports saw a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 11% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, hydrogen fluoride exports contracted significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 28%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

The Czech Republic dominates exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was near 84% of total exports in 2021. Russia (X tons) held a 7.2% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Lithuania (6.5%). Poland (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from the Czech Republic decreased at an average annual rate of -13.9% from 2012 to 2021. Poland (-1.4%), Russia (-3.1%) and Lithuania (-17.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (+4.6 p.p.) and Poland (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Lithuania (-3 p.p.) and the Czech Republic (-3.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) remains the largest hydrogen fluoride supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 7.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Lithuania, with a 5.6% share.

In the Czech Republic, hydrogen fluoride exports shrank by an average annual rate of -8.8% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (-3.2% per year) and Lithuania (-16.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, rising by 27% against the previous year. In general, the export price posted a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 48% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, hydrogen fluoride imports contracted to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 32%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Estonia (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) represented the main importers of hydrogen fluoride (hydrofluoric acid) in Eastern Europe, together amounting to near 60% of total imports. In terms of the main importing countries, Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +14.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 15% against the previous year. Import price indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, hydrogen fluoride import price increased by +60.1% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 19%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Estonia ($X per ton) and the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Bulgaria ($X per ton) and Poland ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
