The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 11%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, pharmaceutical rubber articles exports rose to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 5.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The biggest shipments were from Ukraine (X units), Slovakia (X units) and Poland (X units), together reaching 54% of total export. Romania (X units) ranks next in terms of the total exports with an 8.9% share, followed by Hungary (7.6%), Lithuania (6.9%) and the Czech Republic (6.2%). Russia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Romania (with a CAGR of +96.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest pharmaceutical rubber articles supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Slovakia ($X), Hungary ($X) and Poland ($X), together comprising 55% of total exports. Lithuania, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Romania and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 40%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Romania, with a CAGR of +76.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, approximately equating the previous year. In general, the export price saw a mild setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 10%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per unit), while Ukraine ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+4.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, the amount of hygienic or pharmaceutical articles of rubber imported in Eastern Europe reduced to X units, falling by -7.7% compared with the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, pharmaceutical rubber articles imports totaled $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 16%. In value terms, Hungary ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported hygienic or pharmaceutical articles of rubber in Eastern Europe, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Russia, with an 8.9% share.

In Hungary, pharmaceutical rubber articles imports expanded at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (+6.5% per year) and Russia (-3.8% per year).
