Imines Market Size in Eastern Europe

In 2021, the East European imines market decreased by -14% to $X for the first time since 2011, thus ending a nine-year rising trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded significant growth. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

Imines Production in Eastern Europe

In value terms, imines production totaled $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 8.2%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2021, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Eastern Europe

Imines exports soared to X tons in 2021, growing by 36% on the previous year. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a slight shrinkage. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, imines exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

The Czech Republic (X tons) and Russia (X tons) were the largest exporters of imines and their derivatives and salts thereof in 2021, finishing at near 38% and 36% of total exports, respectively. Poland (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Lithuania (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 21% share of total exports. Hungary (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Hungary (with a CAGR of +31.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) remains the largest imines supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 46% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Poland, with a 14% share.

In the Czech Republic, imines exports increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Russia (-3.9% per year) and Poland (+9.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, approximately equating the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 21%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+4.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imines Imports

Imports in Eastern Europe

After six years of growth, supplies from abroad of imines and their derivatives and salts thereof decreased by -7.1% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 33% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, imines imports contracted modestly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 48% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then contracted modestly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Poland (X tons) represented the main importer of imines and their derivatives and salts thereof, mixing up 50% of total imports. Russia (X tons) took a 25% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the Czech Republic (7.7%) and Hungary (5.4%). Lithuania (X tons), Ukraine (X tons) and Romania (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

Imports into Poland increased at an average annual rate of +20.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Russia (+31.3%), Ukraine (+16.2%), Hungary (+11.6%), the Czech Republic (+7.1%) and Romania (+3.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +31.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Lithuania (-9.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Poland (+19 p.p.) and Russia (+18 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Romania, the Czech Republic and Lithuania saw its share reduced by -2.8%, -5.8% and -25.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and Ukraine ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 80% of total imports.

Russia, with a CAGR of +35.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 3.2% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 14%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (+11.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
