In 2022, shipments abroad of industrial machinery for the preparation of meat or poultry increased by 8.9% to X units, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 41%. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, meat-preparation industrial machinery exports surged to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +66.8% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 31%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Belarus (X units) was the key exporter of industrial machinery for the preparation of meat or poultry, creating 48% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Russia (X units), Poland (X units) and Slovakia (X units), together committing a 45% share of total exports. The following exporters - the Czech Republic (X units) and Lithuania (X units) - each recorded a 5.7% share of total exports.

Exports from Belarus increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Russia (+37.4%), Slovakia (+15.8%), Poland (+4.8%) and the Czech Republic (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +37.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Lithuania (-2.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Russia (+21 p.p.) and Slovakia (+4.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the Czech Republic, Poland, Lithuania and Belarus saw its share reduced by -2.1%, -3.1%, -4.1% and -13.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Poland ($X), Slovakia ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 81% of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Slovakia, with a CAGR of +17.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, picking up by 9.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a slight decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 29%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+2.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of industrial machinery for the preparation of meat or poultry, when their volume increased by 109% to X units. In general, imports continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 374% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, meat-preparation industrial machinery imports shrank slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a pronounced curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 55% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the industrial machinery for the preparation of meat or poultry imports, with a CAGR of +11.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Belarus (+10.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Ukraine (-7.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Russia (+27 p.p.) and Belarus (+2.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Ukraine saw its share reduced by -28% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported industrial machinery for the preparation of meat or poultry in Eastern Europe, comprising 41% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 6.6% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia amounted to -7.0%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (+0.9% per year) and Ukraine (-7.8% per year).

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, falling by -52.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 49%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per unit), while Ukraine ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (-0.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
