In value terms, industrial sewing machines (non-automatic) production contracted slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 5.7%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, shipments abroad of industrial sewing machines (non-automatic) decreased by -45.4% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 71%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X units in 2021, and then contracted significantly in the following year.
In value terms, industrial sewing machines (non-automatic) exports rose slightly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +35.8% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 34% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Poland was the key exporter of industrial sewing machines (non-automatic) in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports recording X units, which was near 47% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by the Czech Republic (X units), comprising a 31% share of total exports. Romania (X units), Russia (X units), Belarus (X units), Bulgaria (X units), Ukraine (X units), Hungary (X units) and Slovakia (X units) held a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belarus (with a CAGR of +34.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) remains the largest industrial sewing machines (non-automatic) supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Romania, with a 3.9% share.
In the Czech Republic, industrial sewing machines (non-automatic) exports increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+8.4% per year) and Romania (+5.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, growing by 86% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced curtailment. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while Bulgaria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+0.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Imports of Industrial Sewing Machines (Non-Automatic)
Imports in Eastern Europe
After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of industrial sewing machines (non-automatic) decreased by -12.4% to X units in 2022. Total imports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +36.9% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 52%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, industrial sewing machines (non-automatic) imports dropped to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 30% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then fell in the following year.
Imports by Country
Russia represented the key importing country with an import of about X units, which accounted for 55% of total imports. Ukraine (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Poland (X units). All these countries together held approx. 29% share of total imports. Romania (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Hungary (X units) and Belarus (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to industrial sewing machines (non-automatic) imports into Russia stood at +2.1%. At the same time, Hungary (+24.1%), the Czech Republic (+8.1%), Ukraine (+5.6%) and Poland (+5.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +24.1% from 2012-2022. Romania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Belarus (-7.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Ukraine (+4 p.p.), Poland (+2.6 p.p.) and Hungary (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Belarus and Russia saw its share reduced by -3.6% and -4.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and Romania ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 74% share of total imports. Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.
Hungary, with a CAGR of +10.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, stabilizing at the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 16% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per unit), while Ukraine ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+0.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
