The East European industrial robot market contracted dramatically to $X in 2021, with a decrease of -32.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +34.1% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, industrial robot exports rose remarkably to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +48.5% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 36%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

The shipments of the six major exporters of industrial robots for multiple uses, namely Hungary, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Poland, Slovakia and Romania, represented more than two-thirds of total export. Russia (X units) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +70.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Slovakia ($X), Bulgaria ($X) and Hungary ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 59% of total exports.

Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +38.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 15% against the previous year. Export price indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, industrial robot export price increased by +117.5% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 33%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per unit), while the Czech Republic ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of industrial robots for multiple uses decreased by -4.5% to X units, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. Total imports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -17.4% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, industrial robot imports rose notably to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -7.1% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 28%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Poland (X units) and the Czech Republic (X units) represented roughly 62% of total imports in 2021. Hungary (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 7.4% share, followed by Romania (7.3%), Slovakia (7.3%), Russia (5.2%) and Bulgaria (4.5%).

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +27.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X), Poland ($X) and Russia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 68% of total imports. Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 26%.

Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +16.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, jumping by 19% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while Bulgaria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+10.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
