Industrial Sewing Machine Market Size in Eastern Europe

The East European industrial sewing machine market skyrocketed to $X in 2022, picking up by 67% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, recorded a noticeable decline. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, overseas shipments of industrial sewing machines decreased by -42.8% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 66% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2021, and then declined notably in the following year.

In value terms, industrial sewing machine exports contracted to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +25.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Poland was the key exporting country with an export of around X units, which accounted for 44% of total exports. The Czech Republic (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 28% share, followed by Russia (6.2%) and Romania (5.6%). Belarus (X units), Bulgaria (X units) and Ukraine (X units) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Belarus (with a CAGR of +37.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) remains the largest industrial sewing machine supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Romania, with a 5.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in the Czech Republic amounted to +2.0%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+8.6% per year) and Romania (+7.8% per year).

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 71% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a deep setback. In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of industrial sewing machines, when their volume decreased by -9.4% to X units. Total imports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +33.0% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 40%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, industrial sewing machine imports dropped to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Russia was the major importing country with an import of about X units, which accounted for 55% of total imports. Ukraine (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 16% share, followed by Poland (11%) and Romania (4.9%). The Czech Republic (X units), Belarus (X units) and Bulgaria (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.

Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of industrial sewing machines. At the same time, the Czech Republic (+7.9%), Ukraine (+5.7%), Poland (+5.2%), Bulgaria (+3.9%) and Romania (+1.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Czech Republic emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +7.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Belarus (-3.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Ukraine and Poland increased by +4.5 and +2.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported industrial sewing machines in Eastern Europe, comprising 40% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Romania, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (+5.1% per year) and Romania (+2.3% per year).

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, growing by 1.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
