As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Poland (X units), distantly followed by Belarus (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Lithuania (X units) and Russia (X units) represented the key exporters of instruments for dental sciences, together mixing up 87% of total exports. Hungary (X units) and Bulgaria (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Lithuania (with a CAGR of +23.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest dental instruments supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 7.3% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Poland totaled +28.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Russia (+12.6% per year) and the Czech Republic (+9.7% per year).

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, declining by -7.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 44%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of instruments for dental sciences, when their volume increased by 17% to X units. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, dental instruments imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +105.3% against 2015 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Russia represented the major importing country with an import of about X units, which resulted at 52% of total imports. Romania (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Poland (X units) and Belarus (X units). All these countries together held approx. 27% share of total imports. The Czech Republic (X units), Ukraine (X units), Latvia (X units), Lithuania (X units), Slovakia (X units) and Bulgaria (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.
Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Lithuania (+17.2%), Bulgaria (+9.8%), Romania (+7.7%), Slovakia (+7.6%), Latvia (+7.4%), Ukraine (+6.9%), the Czech Republic (+6.7%), Belarus (+4.5%) and Poland (+3.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lithuania emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +17.2% from 2012-2021. Romania (+2.4 p.p.) and Lithuania (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Poland and Russia saw its share reduced by -1.7% and -5.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and Romania ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 66% of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Romania, with a CAGR of +14.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 13% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 16%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
