Over the period under review, production of hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, overseas shipments of internal combustion engines, excluding diesel (other than for motor vehicles and aircraft) increased by 63% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, exports showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 120%. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, exports of internal combustion engines, excluding diesel (other than for motor vehicles and aircraft) surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 193% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Poland prevails in aircraft) structure, reaching X tons, which was near 78% of total exports in 2021. Russia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Belarus (X tons). All these countries together took near 14% share of total exports. The following exporters - Hungary (X tons) and Bulgaria (X tons) - each resulted at a 4.1% share of total exports.
Poland was also the fastest-growing in terms of the internal combustion engines, excluding diesel (other than for motor vehicles and aircraft) exports, with a CAGR of +60.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Bulgaria (+31.0%), Russia (+21.9%), Hungary (+18.6%) and Belarus (+10.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Poland (+71 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Belarus saw its share reduced by -8.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest internal combustion engine (excl. diesel, moto vehicle and aircraft) supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 84% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bulgaria ($X), with a 4.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Russia, with a 3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Poland amounted to +66.4%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bulgaria (+42.7% per year) and Russia (+19.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 12% against the previous year. Export price indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, export price for internal combustion engines, excluding diesel (other than for motor vehicles and aircraft) increased by +28.7% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 37% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (+8.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of internal combustion engines, excluding diesel (other than for motor vehicles and aircraft) increased by 31% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports of reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, imports of internal combustion engines, excluding diesel (other than for motor vehicles and aircraft) skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a slight reduction. Over the period under review, imports of attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Russia was the major importer of internal combustion engines, excluding diesel (other than for motor vehicles and aircraft) in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 43% of total imports in 2021. Slovakia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 20% share, followed by Poland (18%) and the Czech Republic (4.5%). The following importers - Belarus (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons), Latvia (X tons) and Romania (X tons) - together made up 9.6% of total imports.
Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Latvia (+29.8%), Bulgaria (+23.4%), Poland (+16.3%), Romania (+12.4%), Belarus (+6.1%) and Slovakia (+5.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Latvia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +29.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the Czech Republic (-21.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (+16 p.p.), Poland (+14 p.p.), Slovakia (+8.5 p.p.), Bulgaria (+2.1 p.p.) and Latvia (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of the Czech Republic (-34.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and Slovakia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 73% share of total imports. The Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Latvia, Romania and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.
Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +29.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 8.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the import price increased by 18%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Latvia ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
