In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in the East European ketone and quinone market, when its value decreased by -8.8% to $X. Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, shipments abroad of ketones and quinones increased by 22% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, ketone and quinone exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild descent. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Russia (X tons) represented the key exporter of ketones and quinones, mixing up 67% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Poland (X tons), generating a 24% share of total exports. The Czech Republic (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of ketones and quinones. At the same time, the Czech Republic (+29.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Czech Republic emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +29.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Poland (-1.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Czech Republic (+3 p.p.) and Russia (+2.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Poland saw its share reduced by -2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 83% share of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, the Czech Republic, with a CAGR of +25.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild shrinkage. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+1.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, supplies from abroad of ketones and quinones was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ketone and quinone imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

The Czech Republic represented the largest importer of ketones and quinones in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was near 43% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Poland (X tons), Belarus (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Russia (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Romania (X tons), together mixing up a 48% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to ketone and quinone imports into the Czech Republic stood at +1.1%. At the same time, Poland (+6.4%), Romania (+5.1%) and Hungary (+3.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +6.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Slovakia (-2.7%), Belarus (-5.5%) and Russia (-7.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Poland (+5.9 p.p.), the Czech Republic (+5.4 p.p.), Hungary (+2.1 p.p.) and Romania (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia and Belarus saw its share reduced by -5.6% and -5.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest ketone and quinone importing markets in Eastern Europe were the Czech Republic ($X), Russia ($X) and Poland ($X), together comprising 65% of total imports. These countries were followed by Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Belarus, which together accounted for a further 26%.

Among the main importing countries, Romania, with a CAGR of +7.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, growing by 31% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
