Total exports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, rendered pig fat exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Poland (X tons) was the major exporter of lard and other pig fat (rendered), constituting 67% of total exports. Hungary (X tons) took a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Romania (7.4%) and the Czech Republic (4.5%). The following exporters - Bulgaria (X tons), Ukraine (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) - together made up 8% of total exports.

Exports from Poland increased at an average annual rate of +9.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Bulgaria (+148.8%), Ukraine (+27.4%), the Czech Republic (+14.5%) and Hungary (+8.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bulgaria emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +148.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Romania (-1.4%) and Belarus (-13.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Poland (+23 p.p.), Hungary (+3.8 p.p.), Bulgaria (+3.1 p.p.), Ukraine (+3 p.p.) and the Czech Republic (+2.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Romania and Belarus saw its share reduced by -4.9% and -8.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest rendered pig fat supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hungary ($X), with an 8.4% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 5.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Poland stood at +10.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Hungary (+9.2% per year) and the Czech Republic (+16.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, growing by 39% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a mild expansion. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+4.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, supplies from abroad of lard and other pig fat (rendered) increased by 9.7% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after six years of decline. Total imports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +57.3% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, rendered pig fat imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a slight slump. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Slovakia (X tons) and Poland (X tons) dominates imports structure, together creating 78% of total imports. Hungary (X tons) took a 9.3% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the Czech Republic (9%).

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Slovakia (with a CAGR of +8.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, Poland ($X), Slovakia ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 79% of total imports.

Slovakia, with a CAGR of +3.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a pronounced shrinkage. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
