Laser Market Size in Eastern Europe

In 2021, the East European laser market decreased by -5.7% to $X, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, consumption recorded buoyant growth. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, laser exports in Eastern Europe skyrocketed to X units, with an increase of 33% on the year before. In general, exports recorded a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 171% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, laser exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 106% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Russia dominates exports structure, reaching X units, which was near 75% of total exports in 2021. Lithuania (X units) held an 8.4% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Slovakia (7.2%) and Poland (4.8%). The Czech Republic (X units) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to laser exports from Russia stood at +20.0%. At the same time, Poland (+22.7%), Slovakia (+19.5%), the Czech Republic (+17.0%) and Lithuania (+15.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +22.7% from 2012-2021. Russia (+6.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Lithuania saw its share reduced by -2.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Lithuania ($X) and Slovakia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 91% share of total exports. The Czech Republic and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 6.6%.

The Czech Republic, with a CAGR of +31.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, waning by -9.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the export price increased by 71% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per unit), while Poland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Overall, imports saw a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 78%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, laser imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 99% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

The countries with the highest levels of laser imports in 2021 were Russia (X units), Poland (X units), the Czech Republic (X units) and Ukraine (X units), together resulting at 80% of total import. Bulgaria (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 7.2% share, followed by Slovakia (5.1%). Latvia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Latvia (with a CAGR of +44.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest laser importing markets in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Russia ($X), with a combined 71% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Slovakia, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Latvia, which together accounted for a further 20%.

Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +33.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, surging by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the import price increased by 26% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per unit), while Ukraine ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
