As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units, and then reduced markedly in the following year.
In value terms, lead-acid accumulators (excluding starter batteries) exports expanded modestly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 26%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Poland represented the largest exporting country with an export of around X units, which resulted at 67% of total exports. Bulgaria (X units) took a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the Czech Republic (6.9%) and Hungary (4.9%). Russia (X units) and Slovakia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to lead-acid accumulators (excluding starter batteries) exports from Poland stood at +4.6%. At the same time, Slovakia (+13.2%), Russia (+12.1%) and Hungary (+8.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Slovakia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +13.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Bulgaria (-3.9%) and the Czech Republic (-8.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Poland (+18 p.p.), Russia (+2.6 p.p.), Hungary (+2.4 p.p.) and Slovakia (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Bulgaria and the Czech Republic saw its share reduced by -8.7% and -11.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest lead-acid accumulators (excluding starter batteries) supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bulgaria ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 7.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Poland totaled +4.1%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bulgaria (-5.4% per year) and the Czech Republic (+12.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, jumping by 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a mild expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 54%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($X per unit), while Russia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+22.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of lead-acid accumulators (excluding starter batteries), when their volume decreased by -13.9% to X units. Overall, imports showed a noticeable downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, lead-acid accumulators (excluding starter batteries) imports amounted to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +19.3% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 19%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Russia was the key importing country with an import of around X units, which resulted at 54% of total imports. Poland (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by the Czech Republic (X units), Hungary (X units) and Ukraine (X units). All these countries together took near 36% share of total imports. Romania (X units) and Slovakia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the lead-acid accumulators (excluding starter batteries) imports, with a CAGR of +3.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Ukraine (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Hungary (-3.1%), Slovakia (-6.7%), the Czech Republic (-9.3%), Romania (-9.3%) and Poland (-10.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Russia (+26 p.p.) and Ukraine (+2.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Romania, the Czech Republic and Poland saw its share reduced by -2.9%, -7.3% and -16.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 73% share of total imports.
Among the main importing countries, the Czech Republic, with a CAGR of +11.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 20% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 76% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per unit), while Russia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
