The Czech Republic (X tons) ranked third in terms of total production with a 14% share.

In 2022, lettuce and chicory exports in Eastern Europe dropped to X tons, shrinking by -3.4% against 2021. In general, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 21% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, lettuce and chicory exports shrank slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Poland represented the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which amounted to 59% of total exports. Hungary (X tons) took a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the Czech Republic (8.4%). The following exporters - Lithuania (X tons), Belarus (X tons), Estonia (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) - together made up 11% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to lettuce and chicory exports from Poland stood at +13.1%. At the same time, Belarus (+20.4%), Slovakia (+10.7%) and Hungary (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +20.4% from 2012-2022. Estonia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the Czech Republic (-2.1%) and Lithuania (-22.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In Poland, lettuce and chicory exports expanded at an average annual rate of +11.4% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (-1.3% per year) and the Czech Republic (-0.3% per year).

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a noticeable downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 21% against the previous year. Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Estonia ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 28%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
