Overall, exports, however, enjoyed tangible growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 66%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, food manufacture machinery exports shrank to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

In 2021, Poland (X units), distantly followed by the Czech Republic (X units), Lithuania (X units), Hungary (X units), Latvia (X units), Estonia (X units) and Bulgaria (X units) were the largest exporters of machinery for the preparation or manufacture of food or drink, together generating 92% of total exports. Romania (X units) held a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +28.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Lithuania ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 70% of total exports. These countries were followed by Latvia, Hungary, Estonia, Bulgaria and Romania, which together accounted for a further 22%.
Among the main exporting countries, Hungary, with a CAGR of +27.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 42%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per unit), while Bulgaria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (+9.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of machinery for the preparation or manufacture of food or drink, when their volume increased by 40% to X units. Overall, imports, however, recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 51% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, food manufacture machinery imports reduced to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 77%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the Czech Republic (X units) and Russia (X units) represented the key importers of machinery for the preparation or manufacture of food or drink in Eastern Europe, together creating 65% of total imports. Poland (X units) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Romania (X units) and Ukraine (X units). All these countries together took approx. 21% share of total imports. The following importers - Lithuania (X units) and Hungary (X units) - each accounted for an 8.3% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +33.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported machinery for the preparation or manufacture of food or drink in Eastern Europe, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Ukraine, with a 6.1% share.
In Russia, food manufacture machinery imports decreased by an average annual rate of -2.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (+10.4% per year) and Ukraine (+0.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, shrinking by -29.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 86%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2020, and then shrank sharply in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while the Czech Republic ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
