After two years of decline, overseas shipments of machines for working wire increased by 0.2% to X units in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed a resilient expansion. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, working wire machine exports contracted to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports posted a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 82%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

In 2021, Poland (X units) was the key exporter of machines for working wire, achieving 49% of total exports. Lithuania (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 13% share, followed by Russia (8.8%), the Czech Republic (7.7%), Hungary (7%) and Belarus (5%). Ukraine (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Poland increased at an average annual rate of +22.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belarus (+28.2%), Lithuania (+26.2%), Hungary (+15.1%) and the Czech Republic (+5.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +28.2% from 2012-2021. Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Ukraine (-7.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Poland (+26 p.p.), Lithuania (+8.4 p.p.) and Belarus (+3.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of the Czech Republic (-6.5 p.p.), Russia (-14.9 p.p.) and Ukraine (-20.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest working wire machine supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 7.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Lithuania, with a 5.5% share.

In Poland, working wire machine exports expanded at an average annual rate of +19.0% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Czech Republic (-3.2% per year) and Lithuania (+14.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, declining by -6.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 1,682% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per unit), while Hungary ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+17.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

Working wire machine imports skyrocketed to X units in 2021, picking up by 34% compared with 2020 figures. Total imports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -2.0% against 2019 indices. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

In value terms, working wire machine imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +26.5% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 49%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Russia (X units) and Poland (X units) represented the key importers of machines for working wire in 2021, amounting to near 22% and 20% of total imports, respectively. Romania (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by Ukraine (8.2%), the Czech Republic (7.6%), Lithuania (5.7%), Moldova (5.5%), Hungary (5.4%) and Belarus (4.6%).

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Lithuania (with a CAGR of +61.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and Romania ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 64% share of total imports. The Czech Republic, Lithuania, Ukraine, Belarus, Hungary and Moldova lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.

Lithuania, with a CAGR of +46.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -10.5% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 44%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then fell in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per unit), while Moldova ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+10.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
