There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, imports of maize (corn) starch in Eastern Europe contracted slightly to X tons, standing approx. at the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 30% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, maize starch imports amounted to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to maize starch imports into Poland stood at +1.1%. At the same time, Slovakia (+11.1%), Belarus (+10.0%), Romania (+10.0%), the Czech Republic (+5.4%) and Bulgaria (+5.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Slovakia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +11.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Russia (-14.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Belarus and Romania increased by +6.3, +5, +4.5 and +4.3 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
