In value terms, Hungary ($X) remains the largest maleic anhydride supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 94% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 4.7% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Hungary totaled +5.7%.

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 66% against the previous year. Export price indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Hungary amounted to $X per ton.

Imports by Country
In 2021, Poland (X tons) represented the largest importer of maleic anhydride, generating 54% of total imports. Russia (X tons) held a 26% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the Czech Republic (7.8%). Hungary (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.
Imports into Poland increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Bulgaria (+101.2%), the Czech Republic (+26.1%), Russia (+9.1%) and Hungary (+5.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bulgaria emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +101.2% from 2012-2021. Slovakia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. The Czech Republic (+6 p.p.), Russia (+3.7 p.p.) and Bulgaria (+3.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Slovakia and Poland saw its share reduced by -2.1% and -10.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Poland ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported maleic anhydride in Eastern Europe, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 24% share of total imports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 10% share.
In Poland, maleic anhydride imports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Russia (+9.6% per year) and the Czech Republic (+28.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 57% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in the Czech Republic ($X per ton) and Slovakia ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) and Poland ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+2.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
