After three years of growth, the East European maltodextrine market decreased by -14.4% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption saw a perceptible contraction. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Slovakia (X tons) represented the key exporter of maltodextrine and maltodextine syrup, comprising 48% of total exports. Ukraine (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 16% share, followed by Russia (12%), the Czech Republic (9.5%) and Poland (9.3%). Moreover, Ukraine emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +138.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Poland (-3.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Ukraine (+16 p.p.), Russia (+12 p.p.) and Latvia (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the Czech Republic and Poland saw its share reduced by -5.2% and -22.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Slovakia ($X) remains the largest maltodextrine supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 46% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Ukraine, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Slovakia stood at +10.4%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (+0.5% per year) and Ukraine (+95.2% per year).

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, rising by 4.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 24% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 9.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 10%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
