The Czech Republic (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main exporters of mattocks, picks, hoes and rakes in 2022, reaching near 38% and 30% of total exports, respectively. Russia (X tons) took an 18% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Slovakia (7.5%). Belarus (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In value terms, Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Russia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 56% share of total imports. Romania, Hungary, Lithuania, Slovakia, Latvia, Estonia, Bulgaria, Belarus and Ukraine lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 43%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Latvia, with a CAGR of +18.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 1.8% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
