In value terms, Russia ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Poland ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 61% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Hungary, Romania, Ukraine and Bulgaria, which together accounted for a further 27%.

Among the main importing countries, Romania, with a CAGR of +10.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, leveling off at the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a perceptible descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 9.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
