Propylene Oxide Market Size in Eastern Europe

The East European propylene oxide market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after three years of decline. In general, consumption, however, saw a abrupt setback. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, overseas shipments of methyloxirane (propylene oxide) decreased by -36.1% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. In general, exports, however, saw a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 1,094%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, propylene oxide exports declined to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 898%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Romania (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together achieving 97% of total exports. Russia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, after eight years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of methyloxirane (propylene oxide), when their volume increased by 17% to X tons. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt slump. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, propylene oxide imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, faced a dramatic setback. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Poland (X tons) was the main importer of methyloxirane (propylene oxide), generating 55% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Slovakia (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Russia (X tons), together generating a 44% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to propylene oxide imports into Poland stood at -20.9%. At the same time, Hungary (+16.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +16.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Russia (-12.6%) and Slovakia (-23.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period.
