Microwave Oven Market Size in Eastern Europe

In 2022, the East European microwave oven market decreased by -1.9% to $X, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. Over the period under review, consumption showed a pronounced curtailment. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, exports of microwave ovens in Eastern Europe surged to X units, with an increase of 17% compared with the year before. Overall, exports showed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 29%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, microwave oven exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +44.3% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In 2022, Belarus (X units), distantly followed by Poland (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Slovakia (X units) and Russia (X units) represented the main exporters of microwave ovens, together constituting 89% of total exports. Romania (X units) and Hungary (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Russia (with a CAGR of +17.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X), Belarus ($X) and Slovakia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 69% share of total exports. The Czech Republic, Russia, Romania and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 22%.

Russia, with a CAGR of +15.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, falling by -1.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a slight reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 12%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per unit), while the Czech Republic ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+2.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Total imports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -4.0% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, microwave oven imports contracted modestly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +114.8% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 24%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell modestly in the following year.

Russia was the major importing country with an import of about X units, which reached 49% of total imports. Poland (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by the Czech Republic (X units), Ukraine (X units), Romania (X units) and Hungary (X units). All these countries together held approx. 40% share of total imports. Slovakia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Poland (+8.4%), Romania (+7.9%), the Czech Republic (+5.5%), Hungary (+3.9%) and Slovakia (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +8.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Ukraine (-1.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Poland (+5.5 p.p.) and Romania (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Russia (-2.9 p.p.) and Ukraine (-4.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
