Monophenols Market Size in Eastern Europe

After two years of decline, the East European monophenols market increased by 9.9% to $X in 2021. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, overseas shipments of monophenols increased by 23% to X tons, rising for the sixth consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, exports posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, monophenols exports surged to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Russia (X tons) was the major exporter of monophenols, creating 77% of total exports. Poland (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 16% share, followed by Lithuania (5.5%).

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to monophenols exports from Russia stood at +8.7%. At the same time, Lithuania (+283.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lithuania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +283.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Poland (-2.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (+15 p.p.) and Lithuania (+5.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Poland (-19.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest monophenols supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 20% share of total exports.

In Russia, monophenols exports increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (-2.7% per year) and Lithuania (+231.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 21% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable downturn. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+0.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of monophenols was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, monophenols imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Poland dominates imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was near 75% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), comprising a 6.6% share of total imports. The following importers - Latvia (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Romania (X tons), Lithuania (X tons) and Russia (X tons) - together made up 17% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to monophenols imports into Poland stood at +4.7%. At the same time, Lithuania (+102.5%), Belarus (+35.0%), the Czech Republic (+19.2%) and Romania (+10.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lithuania emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +102.5% from 2012-2021. Latvia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Russia (-11.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Belarus, Lithuania and the Czech Republic increased by +5.9, +2.9 and +2.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported monophenols in Eastern Europe, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 5.4% share of total imports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 5% share.

In Poland, monophenols imports expanded at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+28.7% per year) and the Czech Republic (+20.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 42% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
