For the fourth consecutive year, the East European mould for glass market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -5.4% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, mould for glass production expanded remarkably to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the production volume increased by 24%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, approx. X units of moulds for glass were exported in Eastern Europe; growing by 5.2% compared with 2020. Total exports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +24.9% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 60%. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 22%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Poland (X units) and Romania (X units) represented the major exporters of moulds for glass in Eastern Europe, together resulting at near 70% of total exports. Bulgaria (X units) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Hungary (X units). All these countries together held approx. 21% share of total exports. The Czech Republic (X units) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +18.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Romania ($X), Poland ($X) and Hungary ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 76% of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Romania, with a CAGR of +12.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, shrinking by -2.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the export price increased by 9.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per unit), while Poland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (-0.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, supplies from abroad of moulds for glass increased by 5.2% to X units, rising for the third consecutive year after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports saw a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 153% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, mould for glass imports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Romania was the largest importer of moulds for glass in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports accounting for X units, which was near 35% of total imports in 2021. Russia (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 16% share, followed by Bulgaria (13%), Poland (11%), Hungary (11%) and Ukraine (5.4%). The Czech Republic (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to mould for glass imports into Romania stood at +17.3%. At the same time, Bulgaria (+20.8%) and Poland (+15.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bulgaria emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +20.8% from 2012-2021. Hungary and Ukraine experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Russia (-1.6%) and the Czech Republic (-2.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Romania (+20 p.p.), Bulgaria (+8.9 p.p.) and Poland (+6.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Ukraine (-3.9 p.p.), the Czech Republic (-3.9 p.p.), Hungary (-7.9 p.p.) and Russia (-16.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the largest mould for glass importing markets in Eastern Europe were Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and Ukraine ($X), with a combined 60% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Romania, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and Hungary, which together accounted for a further 33%.

Romania, with a CAGR of +15.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 3.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 196%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
