Poland (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons) represented roughly 56% of total imports in 2021. Romania (X tons) took a 9.3% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Ukraine (8%), the Czech Republic (7.2%) and Hungary (5.8%).
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Hungary (with a CAGR of +28.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest twine, cordage or textile net importing markets in Eastern Europe were Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), with a combined 58% share of total imports. Lithuania, Romania, Hungary and Ukraine lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 28%.
Hungary, with a CAGR of +22.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 6.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a mild descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 14%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+2.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
