For the seventh year in a row, Eastern Europe recorded growth in shipments abroad of non-electrical lamps and lighting fittings, which increased by 70% to X units in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 88%. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, non-electrical lamp exports rose to $X in 2021. Overall, exports posted a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Poland (X units) was the largest exporter of non-electrical lamps and lighting fittings, creating 59% of total exports. The Czech Republic (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 13% share, followed by Slovakia (9.5%), Hungary (5.7%) and Latvia (4.8%). The following exporters - Belarus (X units) and Russia (X units) - together made up 4.4% of total exports.

Exports from Poland increased at an average annual rate of +19.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belarus (+67.7%), Hungary (+48.1%), Latvia (+31.9%), Slovakia (+21.8%), the Czech Republic (+18.0%) and Russia (+7.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +67.7% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Hungary, Latvia, Belarus and Slovakia increased by +4.8, +2.8, +2.6 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest non-electrical lamp supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), Latvia ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), together accounting for 78% of total exports. These countries were followed by Slovakia, Hungary, Belarus and Russia, which together accounted for a further 16%.

Among the main exporting countries, Belarus, with a CAGR of +52.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, which is down by -39.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 17%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Latvia ($X per unit), while Poland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Latvia (+7.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, the amount of non-electrical lamps and lighting fittings imported in Eastern Europe surged to X units, rising by 98% on 2020 figures. Over the period under review, imports saw strong growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, non-electrical lamp imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Poland (X units) was the major importer of non-electrical lamps and lighting fittings, achieving 46% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Russia (X units), the Czech Republic (X units) and Hungary (X units), together creating a 36% share of total imports. The following importers - Ukraine (X units), Slovakia (X units) and Romania (X units) - each resulted at a 9.5% share of total imports.
