Total exports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -29.2% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 41%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-metal permanent magnet exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 32%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
The Czech Republic represented the key exporter of non-metal permanent magnets in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was approx. 74% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Poland (X tons), creating a 12% share of total exports. The following exporters - Russia (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) - each amounted to a 9.9% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-metal permanent magnet exports from the Czech Republic stood at +2.7%. At the same time, Poland (+16.2%), Belarus (+2.9%) and Russia (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +16.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Hungary (-10.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Poland (+8.5 p.p.) and the Czech Republic (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Hungary saw its share reduced by -7.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest non-metal permanent magnet supplying countries in Eastern Europe were the Czech Republic ($X), Poland ($X) and Hungary ($X), together accounting for 84% of total exports.
Poland, with a CAGR of +17.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 22% against the previous year. Export price indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, non-metal permanent magnet export price increased by +80.8% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 22%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+23.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 47%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, non-metal permanent magnet imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 39%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Poland (X tons) and Russia (X tons) were the major importers of non-metal permanent magnets in Eastern Europe, together resulting at approx. 53% of total imports. Hungary (X tons) took a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the Czech Republic (8.9%), Romania (7.9%) and Slovakia (7.1%). Ukraine (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Romania (with a CAGR of +15.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest non-metal permanent magnet importing markets in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), Hungary ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), together comprising 58% of total imports. These countries were followed by Russia, Romania, Slovakia and Ukraine, which together accounted for a further 37%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Romania, with a CAGR of +18.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 5.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a mild contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by 12% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (+5.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
