In 2021, shipments abroad of non-plastic frames and mountings for spectacles and goggles increased by 46% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a pronounced decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 48%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, spectacle non-plastic frame exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
In 2021, the Czech Republic (X units) and Hungary (X units) represented the major exporters of non-plastic frames and mountings for spectacles and goggles in Eastern Europe, together finishing at near 57% of total exports. Lithuania (X units) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 16% share, followed by Poland (11%) and Russia (4.9%). Estonia (X units) and Latvia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Estonia (with a CAGR of +38.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) remains the largest spectacle non-plastic frame supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Lithuania ($X), with a 7.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Poland, with a 7.4% share.
In the Czech Republic, spectacle non-plastic frame exports expanded at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Lithuania (+11.1% per year) and Poland (-0.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, declining by -13.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 91%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then shrank in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while Hungary ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+14.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2021, the amount of non-plastic frames and mountings for spectacles and goggles imported in Eastern Europe skyrocketed to X units, picking up by 36% compared with the previous year's figure. Total imports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -12.6% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, spectacle non-plastic frame imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate resilient growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Russia represented the key importing country with an import of around X units, which recorded 34% of total imports. Poland (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Hungary (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Romania (X units) and Ukraine (X units). All these countries together held near 50% share of total imports. The following importers - Lithuania (X units) and Belarus (X units) - together made up 7.5% of total imports.
Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of non-plastic frames and mountings for spectacles and goggles. At the same time, Hungary (+13.8%), Lithuania (+13.5%) and Ukraine (+4.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +13.8% from 2012-2021. Poland, Belarus and Romania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the Czech Republic (-3.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Hungary (+8.5 p.p.) and Lithuania (+2.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Poland, Russia and the Czech Republic saw its share reduced by -1.7%, -4.4% and -4.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 60% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Hungary, Romania, Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine, which together accounted for a further 30%.
Among the main importing countries, Hungary, with a CAGR of +19.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, almost unchanged from the previous year. Import price indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, spectacle non-plastic frame import price increased by +127.5% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 34%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit, leveling off in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while Ukraine ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
