After five years of growth, the East European market for non-woven, felt and coated textile garments decreased by -51.3% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption, however, saw a resilient increase. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then dropped notably in the following year.

Production of Non-Woven, Felt and Coated Textile Garments in Eastern Europe

In value terms, production of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments dropped to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, showed a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the production volume increased by 37%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.

Exports in Eastern Europe

For the third year in a row, Eastern Europe recorded growth in overseas shipments of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments, which increased by 1.3% to X units in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 68%. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, exports of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments rose notably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 56%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Poland represented the key exporting country with an export of around X units, which finished at 48% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the Czech Republic (X units), Lithuania (X units) and Slovakia (X units), together committing a 28% share of total exports. Bulgaria (X units), Romania (X units), Belarus (X units), Russia (X units), Ukraine (X units) and Moldova (X units) took a relatively small share of total exports.

Poland was also the fastest-growing in terms of the non-woven, felt and coated textile garments exports, with a CAGR of +31.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Russia (+29.7%), Moldova (+19.2%), Bulgaria (+18.9%), the Czech Republic (+18.7%), Slovakia (+16.8%), Belarus (+10.2%), Romania (+6.6%), Ukraine (+6.5%) and Lithuania (+6.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Poland (+31 p.p.) and Russia (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Belarus, Ukraine, Romania and Lithuania saw its share reduced by -2.9%, -4.1%, -5.6% and -15.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest non-woven, felt and coated textile garment supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 44% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Romania, with a 7.2% share.

In Poland, exports of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments increased at an average annual rate of +25.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Czech Republic (+15.6% per year) and Romania (+9.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 9.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the export price increased by 9.9%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Moldova ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (+5.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Non-Woven, Felt and Coated Textile Garments

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, purchases abroad of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments decreased by -46.1% to X units for the first time since 2014, thus ending a six-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, saw strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 212%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

In value terms, imports of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments fell rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 198% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced notably in the following year.

Imports by Country

Poland (X units) and Russia (X units) represented the largest importers of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments in 2021, finishing at approx. 35% and 25% of total imports, respectively. The Czech Republic (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 13% share, followed by Romania (8.6%), Hungary (4.9%) and Slovakia (4.8%). Bulgaria (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +24.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest non-woven, felt and coated textile garment importing markets in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), together comprising 69% of total imports. These countries were followed by Slovakia, Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria, which together accounted for a further 23%.

Slovakia, with a CAGR of +22.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, rising by 7.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a perceptible slump. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per unit), while Bulgaria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (+6.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
