In value terms, nucleic acid production surged to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +78.3% against 2019 indices. As a result, production attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, shipments abroad of nucleic acids and their salts was finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. Overall, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, nucleic acid exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a buoyant expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Slovakia represented the key exporter of nucleic acids and their salts in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was approx. 72% of total exports in 2021. Hungary (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Poland (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 22% share of total exports. The following exporters - Lithuania (X tons) and Russia (X tons) - each amounted to a 4.1% share of total exports.

Slovakia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of nucleic acids and their salts. At the same time, Russia (+15.5%), Lithuania (+8.7%) and Hungary (+3.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +15.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Poland (-4.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Slovakia and Hungary increased by +6.5 and +4.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Lithuania ($X) remains the largest nucleic acid supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hungary ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Slovakia, with a 9.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Lithuania amounted to +32.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Hungary (+1.5% per year) and Slovakia (+2.3% per year).

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 51% against the previous year. In general, the export price enjoyed buoyant growth. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (+22.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, purchases abroad of nucleic acids and their salts increased by 62% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a remarkable increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, nucleic acid imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports enjoyed resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 64% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Romania (X tons) and Russia (X tons) represented roughly 66% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Hungary (X tons), Poland (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons), together comprising a 28% share of total imports. Belarus (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Romania (with a CAGR of +52.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported nucleic acids and their salts in Eastern Europe, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Romania ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia amounted to +24.8%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Romania (+10.4% per year) and Poland (+14.8% per year).

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the import price increased by 63%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
