The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, oils from coal tar exports stood at $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, posted a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 128% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Estonia (X tons) was the main exporter of oils and other products of the distillation of high temperature coal tar, mixing up 59% of total exports. Poland (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with an 18% share, followed by Belarus (6.2%). Slovakia (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons), Ukraine (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to oils from coal tar exports from Estonia stood at +57.8%. At the same time, Bulgaria (+107.8%), Poland (+29.5%), Slovakia (+21.5%), Hungary (+19.2%) and Belarus (+18.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, growing by 61% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per ton), while Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Oils from coal tar imports soared to X tons in 2021, rising by 76% compared with the previous year. Overall, imports showed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 118% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, oils from coal tar imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports enjoyed strong growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Estonia (+64 p.p.) and Lithuania (+2.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Hungary, Bulgaria, Russia and Poland saw its share reduced by -3.4%, -4.1%, -14.9% and -20.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
