Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, optical fiber cables exports stood at $X in 2022. In general, exports saw strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 36%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Poland (X tons) and Romania (X tons) represented the key exporters of optical fiber cables in 2022, resulting at near 36% and 25% of total exports, respectively. Russia (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 12% share, followed by the Czech Republic (9.7%), Belarus (7.8%) and Slovakia (5%). Hungary (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Romania (with a CAGR of +36.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Poland ($X), Romania ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 78% of total exports.
Romania, with a CAGR of +33.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 6.3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 8.3%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Eastern Europe
After two years of growth, purchases abroad of optical fiber cables decreased by -18.1% to X tons in 2022. Total imports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then plummeted in the following year.
In value terms, optical fiber cables imports fell to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +7.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

Russia (X tons) and Poland (X tons) represented the main importers of optical fiber cables in 2022, reaching approx. 26% and 26% of total imports, respectively. Romania (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by the Czech Republic (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons). In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
