The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 20% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, oriented strandboard (OSB) exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed a prominent expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
The biggest shipments were from Latvia (X cubic meters), Russia (X cubic meters), Romania (X cubic meters), the Czech Republic (X cubic meters), Belarus (X cubic meters), Poland (X cubic meters) and Hungary (X cubic meters), together finishing at 96% of total export.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Russia (with a CAGR of +95.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest oriented strandboard (OSB) supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Latvia ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Romania ($X), with a combined 51% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Russia, Belarus, Poland and Hungary, which together accounted for a further 46%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Russia, with a CAGR of +102.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per cubic meter, increasing by 65% against the previous year. Export price indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Hungary ($X per cubic meter) and Belarus ($X per cubic meter), while Russia ($X per cubic meter) and Romania ($X per cubic meter) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+4.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2021, purchases abroad of oriented strandboard (OSB) decreased by -16.4% to X cubic meters for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 18%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X cubic meters, and then fell remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, oriented strandboard (OSB) imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +33.1% against 2018 indices. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Poland (X cubic meters), distantly followed by Russia (X cubic meters), the Czech Republic (X cubic meters), Romania (X cubic meters), Latvia (X cubic meters), Slovakia (X cubic meters), Lithuania (X cubic meters) and Hungary (X cubic meters) represented the main importers of oriented strandboard (OSB), together committing 90% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Latvia (with a CAGR of +35.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Russia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 50% of total imports. These countries were followed by Romania, Slovakia, Lithuania, Latvia and Hungary, which together accounted for a further 40%.
Latvia, with a CAGR of +34.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
