The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, orthopaedic appliances exports expanded remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded prominent growth. Moreover, Estonia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +30.3% from 2012-2022. The Czech Republic experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Poland (+23 p.p.), Estonia (+3.4 p.p.), Russia (+3.3 p.p.) and Bulgaria (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Hungary, Romania and the Czech Republic saw its share reduced by -2%, -5% and -18.6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest orthopaedic appliances supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 44% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Romania, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Poland totaled +14.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Czech Republic (+2.4% per year) and Romania (+10.1% per year).

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, declining by -8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 12%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of orthopaedic appliances and splints increased by 15% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 40% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, orthopaedic appliances imports contracted slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 21%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.

In 2022, Poland (X tons) and Russia (X tons) represented the main importers of orthopaedic appliances and splints in Eastern Europe, together recording near 55% of total imports.
