Root And Tuber Market Size in Eastern Europe

In 2022, the average yield of roots and tubers in Eastern Europe was estimated at X tons per ha, approximately equating 2021. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of X%. The level of yield peaked at X tons per ha in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the yield remained at a lower figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, root and tuber exports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Belarus was the major exporter of roots and tubers in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), Poland (X tons), Ukraine (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons), together committing a X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Latvia (X tons) and Romania (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.
Belarus was also the fastest-growing in terms of the roots and tubers exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Latvia (X%), Ukraine (X%), Russia (X%), Romania (X%) and Poland (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, the Czech Republic (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Belarus (X p.p.), Russia (X p.p.), Ukraine (X p.p.) and Latvia (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Poland and the Czech Republic saw its share reduced by X% and X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Belarus ($X) remains the largest root and tuber supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Poland, with a X% share.
In Belarus, root and tuber exports increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Russia (X% per year) and Poland (X% per year).

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the export price increased by X%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, purchases abroad of roots and tubers decreased by X% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after three years of growth. Total imports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by X% against 2019 indices. The purchases of the four major importers of roots and tubers, namely Romania, Poland, the Czech Republic and Russia, represented more than half of total import. Slovakia (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Hungary (X tons) and Belarus (X tons). All these countries together took near X% share of total imports.

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per ton), while the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
