The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +2.5% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 15%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X cubic meters in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, particle board exports declined modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 65% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped modestly in the following year.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Russia (X cubic meters), distantly followed by Belarus (X cubic meters), Romania (X cubic meters), Poland (X cubic meters), the Czech Republic (X cubic meters), Latvia (X cubic meters), Hungary (X cubic meters) and Slovakia (X cubic meters) represented the main exporters of particle board, together committing 91% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belarus (with a CAGR of +25.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest particle board supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Romania ($X), Belarus ($X) and Russia ($X), together accounting for 46% of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, Belarus, with a CAGR of +32.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per cubic meter, growing by 7% against the previous year. Export price indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, particle board export price increased by +58.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 48%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per cubic meter), while Russia ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+5.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of particle board, when their volume decreased by -15.2% to X cubic meters. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 13%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X cubic meters in 2021, and then declined significantly in the following year.
In value terms, particle board imports shrank to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +11.0% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.
Imports by Country
Poland represented the key importer of particle board in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports recording X cubic meters, which was approx. 33% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Russia (X cubic meters), Lithuania (X cubic meters), the Czech Republic (X cubic meters), Hungary (X cubic meters), Romania (X cubic meters) and Slovakia (X cubic meters), together constituting a 50% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to particle board imports into Poland stood at +5.5%. At the same time, Romania (+9.6%), Lithuania (+4.9%), the Czech Republic (+1.9%), Hungary (+1.6%) and Slovakia (+1.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +9.6% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Russia (-5.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Poland (+11 p.p.), Romania (+3.8 p.p.) and Lithuania (+2.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Russia (-11.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Poland ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported particle board in Eastern Europe, comprising 30% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Lithuania, with a 9.7% share.
In Poland, particle board imports expanded at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Czech Republic (+4.7% per year) and Lithuania (+7.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, surging by 7.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a mild expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 32%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per cubic meter), while Russia ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
