In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, waning by -3.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 21%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

For the fourth consecutive year, Eastern Europe recorded growth in overseas purchases of pastels, drawing charcoals, writing or drawing chalks, which increased by 17% to X units in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 51% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, drawing chalk imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +104.5% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 25%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
The countries with the highest levels of drawing chalk imports in 2021 were Slovakia (X units), Russia (X units) and Poland (X units), together accounting for 71% of total import. Belarus (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 8.3% share, followed by Ukraine (6%). The Czech Republic (X units) and Romania (X units) held a minor share of total imports.
