After three years of growth, shipments abroad of piper pepper decreased by -6.3% to X tons in 2022. Total exports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +5.4% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, piper pepper exports expanded to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +32.3% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Poland (X tons), distantly followed by Russia (X tons), Latvia (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Romania (X tons) and Bulgaria (X tons) represented the largest exporters of piper pepper, together achieving 87% of total exports. Estonia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Romania (with a CAGR of +23.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest piper pepper supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 33% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Russia, with a 12% share.

The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Estonia ($X per ton), while Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Estonia (+1.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe
After six years of growth, purchases abroad of piper pepper decreased by -2.3% to X tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 9.2% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Ukraine (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Romania (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 24% share of total imports. Hungary (X tons), Latvia (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

In value terms, Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and Romania ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 60% share of total imports. The Czech Republic, Ukraine, Hungary, Latvia and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Latvia, with a CAGR of +5.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 7.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a slight contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the import price increased by 27%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (-0.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
