The East European perfume market fell to $X in 2022, which is down by -8.9% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then dropped in the following year.

In 2022, perfume exports in Eastern Europe rose slightly to X tons, with an increase of 3.8% against the previous year's figure. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 14%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, perfume exports declined to $X in 2022. Overall, exports enjoyed prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 30%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Exports by Country

Poland was the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which finished at 53% of total exports. The Czech Republic (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Russia (X tons) and Hungary (X tons). All these countries together held near 34% share of total exports. Lithuania (X tons), Ukraine (X tons) and Romania (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Poland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of perfumes and toilet waters. At the same time, Lithuania (+21.6%), the Czech Republic (+19.6%), Russia (+11.5%), Hungary (+8.7%), Ukraine (+5.9%) and Romania (+2.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lithuania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +21.6% from 2012-2022. The Czech Republic (+13 p.p.), Russia (+5.8 p.p.), Lithuania (+3.2 p.p.) and Hungary (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Poland saw its share reduced by -21.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X), Poland ($X) and Lithuania ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 80% share of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Lithuania, with a CAGR of +29.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -6.9% against the previous year. Export price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 17%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, perfume imports in Eastern Europe declined slightly to X tons, approximately mirroring 2021 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 13%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, perfume imports contracted slightly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +20.3% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 25%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Russia (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Poland (X tons) represented the major importer of perfumes and toilet waters in Eastern Europe, mixing up 65% of total import. Romania (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 10% share, followed by Hungary (7%). Lithuania (X tons) and Bulgaria (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Lithuania (with a CAGR of +12.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest perfume importing markets in Eastern Europe were the Czech Republic ($X), Poland ($X) and Russia ($X), with a combined 69% share of total imports. Romania, Hungary, Lithuania and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.

Among the main importing countries, Lithuania, with a CAGR of +17.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, waning by -2.3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 17%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced modestly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
