Persimmon Market Size in Eastern Europe

In 2021, the East European persimmon market increased by 11% to $X, rising for the fifth year in a row after two years of decline. The total consumption indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +67.0% against 2016 indices. The level of consumption peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Persimmon Production in Eastern Europe

In value terms, persimmon production contracted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a sharp decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 17%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Poland (X tons) remains the largest persimmon producing country in Eastern Europe, comprising approx. 100% of total volume.

In Poland, persimmon production remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021.

Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, approx. X tons of persimmons were exported in Eastern Europe; reducing by -10.9% against the previous year's figure. Total exports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -45.4% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 48%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, persimmon exports amounted to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 49% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Lithuania (X tons) and Poland (X tons) dominates exports structure, together making up 78% of total exports. Belarus (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 9% share, followed by Russia (7.8%). The following exporters - Latvia (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) - each reached a 4.1% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +50.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest persimmon supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Lithuania ($X), Poland ($X) and Belarus ($X), together comprising 87% of total exports. The Czech Republic, Latvia and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 11%.

The Czech Republic, with a CAGR of +47.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 22%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Latvia (-1.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Persimmon Imports

Imports in Eastern Europe

For the third consecutive year, Eastern Europe recorded growth in supplies from abroad of persimmons, which increased by 5.9% to X tons in 2021. Total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +87.7% against 2013 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, persimmon imports reached $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Russia (X tons) represented the main importer of persimmons, achieving 66% of total imports. Ukraine (X tons) took a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Belarus (5.1%). The following importers - Poland (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons) - each recorded an 8.7% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to persimmon imports into Russia stood at +3.5%. At the same time, Ukraine (+14.3%), Lithuania (+7.8%), Belarus (+6.5%) and Poland (+4.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ukraine emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +14.3% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Ukraine increased by +15 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported persimmons in Eastern Europe, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ukraine ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 7.1% share.

In Russia, persimmon imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ukraine (+4.0% per year) and Belarus (+6.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, growing by 4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a noticeable decline. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+0.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
