In value terms, Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 67% share of total imports. Romania, Ukraine, Belarus and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 19%.

Romania, with a CAGR of +11.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the import price increased by 8.7%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per unit), while Hungary ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
