Photographic Paper Market Size in Eastern Europe
The East European photographic paper market rose significantly to $X in 2021, with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Overall, consumption showed a noticeable shrinkage. In 2021, approx. X square meters of photographic paper, paperboard and textiles were exported in Eastern Europe; growing by 3.5% on the previous year. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a abrupt downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X square meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, photographic paper exports totaled $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 17%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Hungary (X square meters), distantly followed by the Czech Republic (X square meters), Poland (X square meters), Belarus (X square meters) and Russia (X square meters) were the key exporters of photographic paper, paperboard and textiles, together making up 93% of total exports. The following exporters - Bulgaria (X square meters) and Lithuania (X square meters) - each resulted at a 6.2% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Belarus (with a CAGR of +16.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest photographic paper supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Hungary ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Poland ($X), with a combined 86% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Russia, Belarus, Bulgaria and Lithuania, which together accounted for a further 13%.
Belarus, with a CAGR of +16.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per square meter, with an increase of 4.8% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 22%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per square meter), while Belarus ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+6.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Photographic Paper Imports
Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2021, the amount of photographic paper, paperboard and textiles imported in Eastern Europe amounted to X square meters, approximately equating the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 26%. The volume of import peaked at X square meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, photographic paper imports rose remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a perceptible descent. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Poland (X square meters) represented the key importer of photographic paper, paperboard and textiles, generating 34% of total imports. Russia (X square meters) held the second position in the ranking, followed by the Czech Republic (X square meters), Hungary (X square meters), Bulgaria (X square meters) and Slovakia (X square meters). All these countries together took near 56% share of total imports. Romania (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to photographic paper imports into Poland stood at +6.4%. At the same time, Slovakia (+8.5%), Bulgaria (+5.9%) and Hungary (+2.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Slovakia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +8.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Romania (-5.3%), the Czech Republic (-8.4%) and Russia (-11.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Poland (+21 p.p.), Bulgaria (+5.6 p.p.), Hungary (+5.2 p.p.) and Slovakia (+3.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of the Czech Republic (-7.1 p.p.) and Russia (-15.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest photographic paper importing markets in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Russia ($X), with a combined 68% share of total imports. Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 24%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Slovakia, with a CAGR of +16.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per square meter in 2021, rising by 14% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per square meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per square meter), while Bulgaria ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
