Pile-Driver Market Size in Eastern Europe

In 2021, the East European pile-driver market increased by 51% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, consumption showed a slight downturn. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Pile-Driver Production in Eastern Europe

In value terms, pile-driver production rose markedly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 13%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2021, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, shipments abroad of pile-drivers and pile-extractors decreased by -9.9% to X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 452% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, pile-driver exports dropped to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +46.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 74%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Poland was the largest exporter of pile-drivers and pile-extractors in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports recording X units, which was near 59% of total exports in 2021. Russia (X units) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by the Czech Republic (X units) and Lithuania (X units). All these countries together held near 34% share of total exports. The following exporters - Bulgaria (X units) and Romania (X units) - together made up 4.3% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to pile-driver exports from Poland stood at +11.3%. At the same time, Bulgaria (+48.9%), Lithuania (+48.6%), the Czech Republic (+32.1%), Romania (+26.6%) and Russia (+19.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bulgaria emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +48.9% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the Czech Republic, Russia, Lithuania and Bulgaria increased by +7.9, +7, +6.9 and +2.3 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest pile-driver supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and Lithuania ($X), with a combined 87% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Romania, which together accounted for a further 8.4%.

The Czech Republic, with a CAGR of +68.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, approximately equating the previous year. In general, the export price, however, faced a deep downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by 86%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while Poland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (-8.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Pile-Driver Imports

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of pile-drivers and pile-extractors, when their volume decreased by -8.8% to X units. Overall, imports, however, recorded moderate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 156%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, pile-driver imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 82%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Latvia represented the largest importing country with an import of about X units, which amounted to 37% of total imports. Russia (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Poland (X units) and Hungary (X units). All these countries together held approx. 46% share of total imports. Lithuania (X units), the Czech Republic (X units) and Romania (X units) took a little share of total imports.

Latvia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the pile-drivers and pile-extractors imports, with a CAGR of +68.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Hungary (+68.2%), Lithuania (+55.3%), Poland (+34.1%), Romania (+23.5%) and the Czech Republic (+21.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Russia (-12.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Latvia (+37 p.p.), Hungary (+13 p.p.), Poland (+13 p.p.), Lithuania (+4.3 p.p.), the Czech Republic (+2.9 p.p.) and Romania (+2.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -71% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported pile-drivers and pile-extractors in Eastern Europe, comprising 66% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Lithuania, with a 6.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia stood at -1.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (+4.6% per year) and Lithuania (+67.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, picking up by 51% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 145%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
