For the third year in a row, Eastern Europe recorded growth in overseas shipments of plastic baths, shower-baths, sinks and wash-basins, which increased by 1.5% to X units in 2022. In general, exports showed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, plastic bath or sink exports expanded sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Poland (X units) was the largest exporter of plastic baths, shower-baths, sinks and wash-basins, making up 52% of total exports. Slovakia (X units) held a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the Czech Republic (9.3%) and Russia (7.7%). The following exporters - Hungary (X units), Bulgaria (X units) and Romania (X units) - together made up 11% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to plastic bath or sink exports from Poland stood at +7.9%. At the same time, Slovakia (+37.1%), Russia (+20.2%), Romania (+12.3%) and Hungary (+6.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Slovakia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +37.1% from 2012-2022. Bulgaria and the Czech Republic experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Slovakia and Russia increased by +14 and +5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest plastic bath or sink supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 48% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Slovakia ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 13% share.

In Poland, plastic bath or sink exports increased at an average annual rate of +9.7% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Slovakia (+30.1% per year) and the Czech Republic (+1.1% per year).

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 6.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 9.8%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while Russia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+2.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas purchases of plastic baths, shower-baths, sinks and wash-basins decreased by -2.8% to X units, falling for the second year in a row after four years of growth. In general, imports saw a noticeable slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 11% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, plastic bath or sink imports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then declined in the following year.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the major importing country with an import of around X units, which recorded 43% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Poland (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Romania (X units) and Hungary (X units), together generating a 41% share of total imports. The following importers - Lithuania (X units) and Belarus (X units) - each reached a 6.1% share of total imports.

Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -6.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Hungary (+9.6%), Poland (+9.1%), Lithuania (+4.8%), Romania (+4.6%) and the Czech Republic (+4.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +9.6% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Belarus (-1.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Poland (+13 p.p.), the Czech Republic (+4.4 p.p.), Romania (+3.9 p.p.), Hungary (+3.2 p.p.) and Lithuania (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Russia (-26.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest plastic bath or sink importing markets in Eastern Europe were Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), with a combined 64% share of total imports. Romania, Hungary, Lithuania and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.

Hungary, with a CAGR of +11.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, falling by -4.5% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.7%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 29% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit, and then fell in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per unit), while Russia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
