The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +50.0% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 20%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, plastics pipe and pipe fitting exports dropped to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +63.5% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 20%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.

Poland represented the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which resulted at 41% of total exports. Russia (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by the Czech Republic (X tons), Romania (X tons) and Hungary (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 41% share of total exports. Bulgaria (X tons) and Latvia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Poland increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Latvia (+15.1%), Russia (+11.9%), Hungary (+9.0%), Romania (+8.9%) and Bulgaria (+6.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Latvia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +15.1% from 2012-2022. The Czech Republic experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Russia (+6.4 p.p.), Romania (+3.8 p.p.), Hungary (+2.2 p.p.) and Latvia (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Poland and the Czech Republic saw its share reduced by -4% and -6.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest plastics pipe and pipe fitting supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 47% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Romania, with an 8.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Poland stood at +4.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Czech Republic (+3.7% per year) and Romania (+12.4% per year).

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, approximately equating the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 7.9%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2018; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, purchases abroad of plastics pipes and pipe fittings decreased by -6.8% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year rising trend. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 10%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, plastics pipe and pipe fitting imports contracted to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Among the main importing countries, Romania, with a CAGR of +9.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
