The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 12%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, plastic closure exports declined to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +74.3% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, leveling off in the following year.

In 2022, Poland (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) were the largest exporters of plastic stoppers, caps and closures in Eastern Europe, together finishing at approx. 51% of total exports. The Czech Republic (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Belarus (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 35% share of total exports. Moldova (X tons) held a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Lithuania (with a CAGR of +16.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest plastic closure supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), Hungary ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), with a combined 64% share of total exports. Belarus, Russia, Lithuania and Moldova lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.
Lithuania, with a CAGR of +16.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 4.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 11%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Moldova ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+4.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas purchases of plastic stoppers, caps and closures decreased by -5% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 16%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted slightly in the following year.
In value terms, plastic closure imports shrank to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 20%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then declined modestly in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Poland (X tons), distantly followed by Russia (X tons), Hungary (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Romania (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) represented the main importers of plastic stoppers, caps and closures, together generating 86% of total imports. Ukraine (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Hungary (with a CAGR of +6.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest plastic closure importing markets in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), with a combined 63% share of total imports. Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Ukraine lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.
Slovakia, with a CAGR of +6.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 2.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 14% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
